What is a Platform Lift ?

Platform lifts are often also called Table Lifts and sometimes a Flat Lift. This may be because this most describes what this lift is.

Most platform lifts are simple up and down structures.

The example on the right has several added features which makes it a far more valuable work tool.

This lift can be mounted onto a trolley for easy manouverability, it has 4 screw stabilizer bolts allowing for perfect balance, it has a platform on top which extends left and right of this picture allowing for the worker to access maximum distance before the unit is moved.

This particular lift was requested by Rolls Royce for their aircraft maintenance division. It has many safety features most of you will never need. Some of these are...

Due to space and other safety constraints, this particular lift must be manually propelled. The base frame was specifically designed for maximum stability by utilizing telescopic extending screw down stabilizers. This provided an extra stable, safer solution in case of an explosion.

It must be easily maneuverable on the smooth work area floor.

It must have an OverReach facility to assist engineers working within the engine cowlings.

It must be explosion proofed in case of possible aviation fuel spillage which resulted in any explosion.

Skydrol resistant paint was also required.

A special Saxon Multiple Scissor Lift of compact design was manufactured and mounted on a mobile base unit comprising of 2 x fixed and 2 x swivel wheels. The lift height extended to 6.5 metres.

As you can see. the lift was fitted with a sliding extention which could be "walked out" for easier Over Reach access.

Sections of the handrail can be lowered to allow work to be carried out safely within the engine cowling.

A pneumatic-hydraulic motor pump unit and pneumatic limit switches were also fitted to prevent explosion risk to the operator. These were operating from a 6 BAR air supply.

All fabricated steel parts were shot blast prior to application of a two-coat epoxy paint finish to resist the corrosive effects of any Skydrol fluid which may come in contact with the framework.
